The Community Arts Council of Prince George & District and Trinity United Prince George proudly announce the much-anticipated second season of the Performing Arts Series, set to grace the stage this September. With a curated selection of world-class performers and ground-breaking productions, this season promises to be a celebration of cultural excellence and artistic innovation.

Building on the success of the inaugural season, the second season of the Performing Arts Series showcases an eclectic lineup of talent from around the globe. Audiences can expect to be mesmerized by the Jeremy Ledbetter Trio's fiery fusion of contemporary jazz and world music, Duo Cordelia's captivating reinterpretation of classical masterpieces, as well as the highly anticipated ‘Proximity’ by Josh Beamish’s Move the Company (originally programmed for last season).

"We are thrilled to present such a diverse and dynamic lineup for the second season of the Performing Arts Series," says Rev. Dr. Bob Fillier, Lead Minister, Trinity United Prince George. "Each performance offers unique opportunities to engage with the arts in new and exciting ways, fostering connections and sparking inspiration within our community."

“The Performing Arts Series is the result of a unique and deep collaboration between two community-based organizations and is leading the way in activating new and existing cultural facilities such as the Knox Performance Centre and the PG Playhouse,” says Shelby Richardson, CAC Performing Arts Program Manager. “Our goal is to inspire our diverse community to become a centre of creativity and well-being - a place where art has no boundaries.”

As the season unfolds, audiences will be treated to the captivating harmonies of O'Celli's eight cellos, the heartfelt storytelling of J S Bach’s Long Walk in the Snow with Tom Allen & Friends, featuring pianist Jamie Parker, and a double-bill performance featuring Calder White's 'Baby' and Tara Cheyanne's 'Body Parts.' The season culminates with a fantastic presentation of Indigenous classical music by the Jessica McMann Trio. The series promises to take you on a unique adventure with every performance, bringing you top-tier talent from across Canada.

The series will unfold at two community venues: The Knox Performance Centre and The Prince George Playhouse. As a multi-venue event, it aims to engage audiences across the city and draw visitors from the wider region. Alongside captivating performances, the series will offer a variety of workshops and community engagement opportunities. For instance, attendees can participate in a hoop dancing workshop led by visiting artist Jessica McMann, enriching the cultural experience and fostering connections within the community.

ABOUT THE KNOX PERFORMANCE CENTRE

The newly renovated Knox Performance Centre is a central component of the Trinity United Downtown campus, the oldest continuous church in Prince George. The original church building facing Brunswick Street is part of the Prince George Heritage Building Registry. The performance centre is part of a renewed sanctuary that was constructed in 1955. After the Knox congregation merged with the former St. Andrew’s congregation in 2018, Trinity United began asking the question how it could live out its core values of inclusive fellowship, living faith, joyful service, being anti-racist, and Affirming All through its various ministries and its two buildings. Plans emerged to renovate and convert part of the space at Trinity Downtown into a full-time performance and live events venue. Several individuals and local performing arts organizations, including the Community Arts Council of Prince George and District, worked together with Trinity United Church to develop plans and strategies to understand how the new centre could best serve a wide range of user groups and individual artists, both local and visiting. The Centre has a seating capacity of 300 persons and has the most up-to-date performance lighting and sound system in Northern BC. Funding in support of creating the performance centre includes Northern Development Initiative Trust, Heritage Canada, the Prince George Community Foundation, Downtown Prince George, the BC Arts Council, Trinity United Church, and the United Church of Canada Foundation.

ABOUT THE PRINCE GEORGE PLAYHOUSE

In fall 2024, the CAC assumes management of the PG Playhouse, a longstanding beacon of cultural and artistic vibrancy in Prince George. Since its inception in the early seventies, the Playhouse has evolved to meet the dynamic needs of performers and audiences alike. A significant renovation in 1996, funded by the City, expanded seating capacity and introduced state-of-the-art upgrades. Today, boasting a seating capacity of 303 and versatile stage design, the Playhouse stands as a premier venue for theatre, live music, comedy, conferences, and weddings, epitomizing Prince George's rich cultural landscape.
