PRINCE GEORGE, BC – Trinity United Church and the Community Arts Council of Prince George & District are excited to announce their inaugural 2023 – 2024 Performing Arts Series featuring an array of performing artists from across Canada. The series features top-tier talent focusing on a wide variety of disciplines that will expand audiences across the North.
The series will provide new and exciting programs for two Prince George venues, the Knox Performance Centre, and the Prince George Playhouse.
The series will open with a program of culturally infused world music and dance including the high-energy percussionist group Kutapira (Vancouver), celebrated Flamenco artist Jhoely Triana and her band, Jhoely Triana Flamenco (Vancouver), and local Persian and Latin-infused musical group Navaz. Canadian Theatre Co. will perform the tear-jerker Pier 21, a pop-up musical theatre production featuring three actor/ musicians who play a wide variety of characters and instruments. Comedy duo Geri Hall (This Hours has 22 Minutes) and Gary Pearson (Mad TV, Corner Gas) will present their hilarious comedy hour – Middle Raged for a night of fun and laughs. The season also includes Juno nominated contemporary classical group Land’s End Ensemble from Calgary, featuring Maria van der Sloot on violin, Beth Root Sandvoss on Cello, and Susanne Ruberg-Gordon on Piano.
We open 2024 with prolific choreographer and internationally acclaimed dance performer Josh Beamish, whose Proximity program is danced by Beamish and Kidd Pivot’s Renee Sigouin; and includes works by Kirsten Wicklund and Annaelle Lopez Ochoa. We will then welcome back acclaimed Toronto Symphony Orchestra concert master Jonathan Crow to perform a solo violin recital alongside pianist Phil Chiu. In April, Ballet Kelowna will join us to present a mixed-bill program of their newest works including taqəš (tawKESH) and The Cowboy Act (choreographed by artist in residence Cameron Fraser-Monroe), Bolero (created by Guillaume Côté from the National Ballet). To close off our season, we will have a very special two-day musical presentation curated by local musician Danny Bell. Masterclasses and workshops will also be an integral part of the series and present an opportunity for our local artists and students to work alongside celebrated industry artists.
